Baby boomers are consuming more cannabis products than millennials, and they’re using it for wellness and therapeutic options, according to recent reports.

In the United States, 76 million baby boomers comprise nearly a quarter of the population, as the U.S. Census Bureau shows. With 10,000 Americans turning 65-years old every day, healthy aging is a huge priority, and wellness products trends are set to explode in 2018, according to Forbes.

What Changed Baby Boomers’ Minds About Cannabis?

Baby boomers were exposed to years of anti-cannabis propaganda, especially under President Nixon and the crusade to label cannabis as a demotivating ‘drug.’  But in recent years, new research has opened this generation’s minds to cannabis-based wellness products. After all, even the federal government has a patented cannabis product – its own CBD oil.

There are now over 23,000 studies and reviews published in respected peer-reviewed science and medical journals, new clinical trials being announced nearly every month, and new studies beginning to research the effects of cannabinoids.

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD oil, is a natural compound found throughout the seeds, stalk, and flowers of cannabis plants — including hemp and marijuana.

A breakthrough nutritional supplement, CBD oil has become quite popular as an alternative to other over the counter wellness products. While cannabidiol is not yet FDA approved for any condition, many independent and third-party studies have shown promising results for a variety of indications.

“I was giddy, shocked and scared. We were talking about marijuana! I was excited to try it. I thought, ‘It can’t make me any worse than I already am.”

Vivian Stagg, 60, was experiencing 12 to 15 debilitating seizures a month when her daughter suggested trying CBD oil. “I was giddy, shocked and scared. We were talking about marijuana! I was excited to try it. I thought, ‘It can’t make me any worse than I already am,” Stagg told Cannaeffect.org, an organization that advocates for the use of medical marijuana in the interest of patients’ treatment and pain management. After the CBD oil arrived and Stagg tried it, she noticed changes the very next day. Since then, she reported having no seizures in months.

How Baby Boomers Use Cannabis Products?

Compared to other generations, baby boomers (birth years 1946 – 1964) have the highest demand for cannabis products, according to a 2017 State of Cannabis report by Eaze Insights. Cannabis product orders from baby boomers increased 19 percent year-over-year, the report found.

Baby boomers seem to prefer topicals (administered to the skin) and vaporizers to other methods of cannabis consumption.

Most baby boomers – 63 percent of the report participants – prefer to use vaporizers, which offer a discreet way of consuming CBD oil without smoking, such as HempMeds which offers CBD vaporizer pens that are a sleek, discreet hemp oil product. Unlike cigarettes or some other vaporizers, these vaporizers produce no smoke and contain no nicotine. They provide baby boomers with a portable system to maintain CBD throughout the day.

Baby boomers using CBD oil are not required to visit a doctor or register for a medical cannabis card in their state. Because hemp-based products are sold as a dietary supplement, they are available nationwide to purchase online or in stores, just like any supplement or multivitamin. CBD, derived from hemp, is fully legal to purchase and ship in the U.S. and in over 40 countries worldwide.

CBD is non-psychoactive and doesn’t produce the psychoactive effect of its better-known cousin THC – so no, Grandma won’t get high while benefiting from the positive effects of this cannabinoid wellness product.

For baby boomers with an existing vitamin routine, CBD hemp oil capsules are a natural choice. It’s recommended to include one capsule in the morning to add 25 mg of CBD to your diet.

What health benefits does CBD oil have for baby boomers?

CBD can help active baby boomers, with many athletes opting to add it to their shakes and smoothies as part of their training programs. CBD oil brand Real Scientific Hemp Oil-X (RSHO-X™) has become the CBD supplement of choice for first responders, competitive athletes, and active seniors. In fact, RSHO-X is the first cannabinoid supplement available that meets the rigid drug testing restrictions set forth by worldwide testing and regulatory bodies.

CBD oil supplements help augment the body’s naturally occurring endocannabinoids, increasing the body’s ability to promote homeostasis or stability in the body. There are over 100 known cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and cannabigerol (CBG). Cannabinoids work together with the body’s ECS to regulate the body’s natural functions – including mood, sleep, appetite, immune response, and signal modulation.
Besides CBD, other ingredients in hemp oil supplements have benefits to the body, including providing essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and protein which can aid fitness recovery for older people. These essentials also aid baby boomers in recovering from surgery or undergoing physical therapy.

A daily serving of CBD hemp oil offers a slew of nutrients including iron, zinc, carotene, phospholipids, phytosterols, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin D, vitamin E, chlorophyll, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper, potassium, phosphorus, and enzymes. Essential vitamins, nutrients, and minerals help strengthen bones, heal wounds, and bolster the immune system. They also convert food into energy, and repair cellular damage.

CBD hemp oil is abundant in protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids. The health benefits of essential fatty acids include prevention of atherosclerosis, reduced incidence of heart disease and stroke, and relief from ulcerative colitis and joint pain. Omega-3 fatty acid levels have also been associated with decreased breast cancer risk.

Debbie Moreira grew up in the ’60s and ’70s when people had different attitudes about cannabis, she told Cannaeffect.org. She was afraid to try CBD oil. But with the encouragement of her children, she gave it a shot in October 2016. She tried HempMeds’ Blue Label Liquid Real Scientific Hemp Oil (RSHO) ™, which she still uses today.

Moreira is back to living independently and focusing on caring for others in her senior living community. “Now that I can do more, and my spirits are up. I’m the one who goes around and visits everyone in the senior apartment community. The CBD oil is something I cannot live without because it makes such a huge difference,” she said.

HempMeds offers a minty cool CBD hemp oil chewing gum. Each box of 32 breaks down into portable blister packs of eight pieces.
